ASTM A403 Size on Size/Reducing Weldolet Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings
Weldolet are the most common type of branch fitting and are part of the butt welding fixings family and are available in a wide variety of dimensions.
ASTM A403 and MSS SP-97 are two separate standards that are often referenced together when discussing Weldolets. Let's break it down:
ASTM A403:
ASTM A403 is a standard specification for wrought austenitic stainless steel pipe fittings. It covers various types of fittings, including butt-welded, socket-welded, and threaded fittings. This specification defines the requirements for materials, dimensions, mechanical properties, and testing of stainless steel pipe fittings.
A weldolet is a branch butt-weld connection fitting that is attached to an output pipe in order to reduce stress concentrations in the piping region. The most frequent type of branch fitting is the weldolet. They’re a type of butt welding fitting that comes in a number of sizes. They are used as an alternative to fittings such as elbows or tees, which can be more complex to install and may require additional support.

Columbium 0.10-0.30%; Vanadium 0.10-0.30%.
For small diameter or thin walls, or both, where many drawing passes are required, a carbon maximum of 0.04% is necessary in grades TP304L and TP316L. Small outside diameter tubes are defined as those less than 0.500in.(23.7mm) in outside diameter and light wall tubes as those less than 0.049in.(1.24mm) in average wall thickness
