Materials: ASTM A182 F316/F316L
Stainless steel 316/ 316L flanges have enhanced resistance to pitting corrosion in chloride environments due to the addition of molybdenum. The letter “L” denotes low carbon content. According to ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47, SS 316/ 316L flanges may be made from forgings of ASTM A182 Grade F316 or F316L, castings of ASTM A351 Grades CF8M or CF3M, and plates of ASTM A240 Grades 316 or 316L.
SS 316/ 316L flanges can be furnished in diverse types such as welding neck, slip on, blind, socket welding, lap joint, threaded, and reducing, etc. Flanges of ASME B16.5 may be provided in sizes 1/2″ through 24″ in Class 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500, 2500. Flanges of ASME B16.47 Series A may be provided in sizes 26″through 60″in Class 150, 300, 400, 600, 900; while flanges of ASME B16.47 Series B may be provided in sizes 26″ through 60 in Class 75, 150, 300, 400, 600, 900

Flange Type: SO-Slip On Flange
Slip on flange also simplified as SO flange. SO flanges slip over pipes and are designed to bit slightly bigger on the inside than the pipe. They connect to the pipe through a fillet weld at the flange top and bottom. It is used to insert the pipe into the inner hole of flange, as the flange inner diameter is little bigger than the pipe’s outer diameter, pipe and flange could be connected by lap welding at the top and bottom of the flange.
The slip on flange is shorter in length than a weld neck flange, and is used in areas where short tie-ins are necessary or space limitations necessitate its use. Generally, the life span of a slip-on flange connection is about one-third that of the weld neck flange. Despite of additional welding involved during installation, its lower initial cost makes the SO flange preferred over WN flanges by many users. It is generally used in non-corrosive, non-critical, moderate pressure services. Slip on flanges of Class 150 and Class 300 are most commonly seen in utility engineering.
Face Type: RF- Raised Face
The Raised Face flange is the most common type used in process plant applications, and is easily to identify. It is referred to as a raised face because the gasket surfaces are raised above the bolting circle face. This face type allows the use of a wide combination of gasket designs, including flat ring sheet types and metallic composites such as spiral wound and double jacketed types. The purpose of a RF flange is to concentrate more pressure on a smaller gasket area and thereby increase the pressure containment capability of the joint.
